Product Description

The Diacell® LeverDAC-Mini is strongly constructed.  Pressure is generated by means of a hand wheel and screw acting on disc springs.  These in turn actuate a lever and presser plate mechanism.  The lower presser plate drives a piston on which one of the diamond anvils is mounted.  The opposing anvil is held on a fixed plate.  The Diacell® LeverDAC-Mini has been designed with particular attention to ease of operation.

The numerical aperture (NA) of the Diacell® LeverDAC-Mini is 0.4 which matches well the NA's of most FTIR instruments. Hence no beam condenser is needed.

The Diacell® LeverDAC–Mini is shipped aligned and ready for use, and included are two tubes which allow evaporated liquid nitrogen to be passed around the anvils thus providing cooling usefully at low temperatures suitable for work of a biological nature.

Applications

The Diacell® LeverDAC-Mini is suitable for analytical use, and particularly useful for biological applications. This diamond anvil cell was designed for analytical and forensic applications in which the primary requirement is to be able to spread a small specimen over a wider area so that it may be more readily studied by spectroscopic and other means.  Its particular appeal, especially in the forensic field, lies in the fact that the sample is not adulterated in any way, and is recoverable directly.  Only very small samples are required: they may be loaded and compressed directly. Alternatively, and also for liquid samples, the sample may be held within a thin metal gasket having a central hole of about 0.5 mm diameter.

The Diacell® LeverDAC-Mini is also particularly suitable for biological studies involving proteins, bacteria and foodstuffs.  For applications such as spreading out small flakes of paint, surprisingly high loads are needed.
