Diacell® CryoDAC-PPMS XL
Transport measurements, Quantum Design PPMS®, Pmax = 40 GPa, Tmin = 4 K, WD = 10 mm
Diacell® CryoDAC Series
- The Diacell CryoDAC-PPMS XL is an extension of the standard CryoDAC-PPMS upgrading the pressure range up to 40 GPa;
- The CryoDAC-PPMS XL is fitted with special seats made of Pascalloy™ (NiCrAl) superalloy capable of taking larger load force and not being marked by the table of the diamond anvil;
- This special version is also using larger diamond anvils, 3.10 mm Diacell Design anvils to sustain larger applied forces;
- Further enhancement of the performance of the cell can be achieved using the CryoDAC-PPMS XL Clamps (See accessories).

Description
The Diacell® CryoDAC-PPMS XL is a diamond anvil cell for conducting transport measurements on a Quantum Design PPMS® platform. The DAC is interfacing with the PPMS® with a puck similar to the one on the PPMS® platform.
The CryoDAC-PPMS XL has Pascalloy™ (NiCrAl) superalloy seats that can endure high loads without damage. It employs diamond anvils with a diameter of 3.10 mm, in contrast to the standard CryoDAC-PPMS diamond anvil cell which uses 2.50 mm anvils. These new features will allow forces up to 6000 N.
As standard, the CryoDAC-PPMS XL is fitted with bevelled diamond anvils. Using such anvils will protect the electrical wires emerging from the gasket, from damage. At the time of purchase, customers can choose from different culet sizes ranging from C=0.30 mm to 1.00 mm.
The performance of this cell is further enhanced by a set of optional clamps. The clamps help to apply more load on the piston (up to 8000 N), which is afterwards transferred to the CryoDAC-PPMS XL clamping screws.
The combination of Pascalloy™ (NiCrAl) superalloy seats, 3.10 mm diameter diamond anvils, and clamps increases the maximum pressures that this diamond anvil cell can achieve.
The maximum pressure (Pmax) for the Diacell® CryoDAC-PPMS XL is 65% greater than the Pmax for the standard CryoDAC-PPMS. When the Diacell® CryoDAC-PPMS XL is used with the associated clamps, the Pmax is 100% higher. The table below shows comparative maximum pressures:
Culet size (µm) | 200 | 300 | 400 | 500 | 600 | 800 | 1000 |
Pmax (GPa) for CryoDAC-PPMS (*) | N/A | 48 | 31 | 20 | 14 | 8 | 5 |
Pmax (GPa) for CryoDAC-PPMS XL (*) | N/A | 79 | 51 | 33 | 23 | 13 | 8 |
Pmax (GPa) for CryoDAC-PPMS XL with clamps (*) | N/A | 96 | 62 | 40 | 28 | 16 | 10 |
(*) The Pmax values are only indicative. The maximum pressure achievable with a DAC is influenced by many others experimental parameters, like the gasket characteristics (material, thickness and hole size) or the pressure transmitting medium.
